To provide an evaporative emission control system and a control method for a fuel tank capable of minimizing the size of a storage canister for fuel evaporative emission.

An evaporative emission vent system 20 for the fuel tank 22 has a float operated vent valve 38 on a tank top permitting the fuel evaporative emission flow to the storage canister 44 through a conduit 42 for evaporative emission. An filler nozzle seal 32 in a tank filler port seals the periphery of a filler nozzle 28 during fuel supply. A re-circulation line 50 is connected to a fuel filler tube 26 below the nozzle seal 32, and connected to the conduit 42 for evaporative emission to the canister 44. During the fuel supply, the flow of the fuel inside the fuel filler tube re-circulates a part of the evaporative emission flowing to the canister 44, and the size of the canister to be required can be minimized.
