The evaporator includes the pair of header tanks 2, 3 vertically disposed at an interval, and a plurality of heat exchange tubes 14 disposed between both upper and lower header tanks 2, 3 in a state that its longitudinal direction is directed to the vertical direction, and they are connected with both upper and lower header tanks 2, 3 at both upper and lower end portions. The recessed portions 41, 42, 43, 44 are formed on the outer surface of at least one end of both longitudinal ends of the header tanks 2, 3. Drain ports 52, 53, 54 for draining the water from the recessed portions 41, 42, 43, 44 are formed at a lower part of a wall portion surrounding the recessed portions 41, 42, 43, 44 of the header tanks 2, 3.
