To provide an excitation device and a vehicle abnormal noise inspection method, capable of inspecting abnormal noise caused in a vehicle by applying vibrations simulating travelings on various road surfaces at low cost.
The excitation device includes a first drum 4 having an outer peripheral surface with projection to abut on a lower front part of a wheel 3 of a vehicle 2 and a second drum 5 having an outer circumferential surface with projection to abut on a lower rear part of the wheel 3 of the vehicle 2, in which any one of the wheel 3 and the drums 4 and 5 is driven to rotate with the wheel 3 being supported by the drums 4 and 5 to rotate the wheel 3 and the drums 4 and 5, and the vehicle 2 is excited by the projections through the wheel 3. The projection is constituted by fixing a stepped projection block 9 stepped in two or more stages in the rotating direction of the drum outer circumferential surface to the drum outer circumferential surface. Accordingly, two or more kind of vibration input patterns can be assigned by one projection block 9 by normally and reversely rotating the wheel 3 and the drums 4 and 5. Various vibration input patterns can be assigned at low cost, compared with a projection block having a simple shape without steps. By exciting the vehicle 2 by the excitation device 6 to perform abnormal noise inspection, the abnormal noise inspection can be performed with the advantages of the excitation device 6.
