To suppress emission deterioration and improve reforming capability by preventing fuel gas evaporated when reforming fuel from flowing back to an exhaust main pipeline.
In an exhaust control device for an internal combustion engine in which the fuel reformed by a reformer 20 provided in an EGR passage 14 can be supplied to an intake manifold 17 as reformed gas, a reforming catalyst 22 increasing pressure loss of exhaust gas to be introduced to a reforming catalyst 21 by a prescribed amount to prevent EGR gas to which the fuel is added from flowing back from the EGR passage 14 to a side of a mainstream exhaust gas passage 12a is provided in an upstream side of a portion to which the fuel is added by a fuel injector 18 in the EGR passage 14. Mainstream exhaust gas is cleaned by a purification catalyst provided in the reforming catalysts 21, 22 and further cleaned by a catalyst 30 in a downstream side, and discharged from a mainstream exhaust gas passage 12c to the atmosphere.
