Abstract:
PURPOSE:To aim at improvements in the capacity of exhaust emission control, by making sulfur dioxide turn to sulfur trioxide, while having the latter adsorbed to a porous substance, in case of an exhaust emission control device capable of reducing pollution substances in exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:At the upstream side of a mulffer 5 in the exhaust pipe of a Diesel engine 2, there are provided in order with a catalyzer A for HC, CO and particulate emission control use, zirconia excellent in sulfur trioxide adsorption, porous materials such as active carbon titania and an adsorbent material B coated with these porous materials. Sulfur dioxide SO2 is oxidized by the catalyzer A and therefore turned to sulfur trioxide SO3, thus absorbed by the adsorbent material B.
