This device is provided with an injection control means 61 performing main injection ejecting fuel in the vicinity of a compression top dead center, an EGR amount control means 63 controlling an amount of exhaust gas reflux into a combustion chamber 4 to lower a high temperature part of a combustion air-fuel mixture below a NOx generation temperature, an air excessive rate control means 64 controlling an excessive rate of air in the combustion chamber 4 to lower a local equivalent ratio in the latter period of combustion below a soot generation equivalent ratio, and an intake air temperature control means 62 controlling temperature of intake air after mixing of exhaust gas. The intake air temperature control means 62 controls such that the temperature of intake air after mixing of exhaust gas falls in a temperature range lower than an upper limit temperature ensuring a predetermined ignition delay time and higher than a lower limit temperature avoiding generation of HC and CO. The injection control means 61 performs early-stage injection ejecting a predetermined amount of fuel in a predetermined injection timing prior to main injection when engine load is a predetermined value or more.
