Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve purifying efficiency for exhaust gas by providing an exhaust passage on an upstream side of an exhaust purifying catalyst with an adsorbent to adsorb unburnt gas in the exhaust gas, and said upstream side with a fuel reforming means to supply hydrogen gas generated in said means to said catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust passage 2 extending from an exhaust port of an engine body 1 is provided with a catalytic converter rhodium 3 on its midway, and said passage 2 on an upstream side of said rhodium 3 is composed of a main passage 2a and a bypass passage 4 which are arranged in parallel with each other. The bypass passage 4 is provided with an adsorbent 5 to adsorb unburnt gas in exhaust gas, and an upstream branch connection between said both passages 2, 4 with an electromagnetic change-over valve 6. In addition to that, said passage 2 on an upstream side of said valve 6 is provided with a fuel reforming device 7 which receives the heat of exhaust gas to generate hydrogen gas from fuel in a fuel piping 9. The generated hydrogen gas is supplied to a hydrogen gas separating device 11 through a piping 10, and said hydrogen gas transmitted and separated in said device 11 is supplied onto the closely upstream side of said rhoduim 3 through a piping 12 and also into an intake passage 14 through a piping 13.
