Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine equipped with a particulate filter, which suppresses deterioration of the exhaust emission and a rise of the exhaust resistance, and recovers or maintaining the performance of the particulate filter.
SOLUTION: The amount of the particulates in the exhaust gas downstream of the particulate filter increases while the performance of the filter is maintained or recovered. Downstream of the filter, a sweeper 45 is installed so as to capture the particulates. The sweeper is furnished with exhaust gas passages 57 and 58 partitioned by porous bulkheads 59, and the bulkheads to partition the end of at least one of the exhaust gas passages are formed aslant so that they approach each other. Small holes 55 and 56 are formed at the end of the passage by the slant bulkheads 52 and 53 and the ends of the passages are blocked partially. The flowing section area of each small hole is smaller than that of the passage and greater than the pores of the bulkheads.
