Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably raise a temperature of a particulate filter, a NOx catalyst, or the whole particulate filter carrying the NOx catalyst.
SOLUTION: A reducing agent feed valve 77 and an auxiliary catalyst 79 are successively disposed in an annular exhaust pipe 67 between an inflow/outflow port 65 of a control valve 61 and a particulate filter 69. When the temperature of the particulate filter 69 is raised, a reducing agent is temporarily fed from the reducing agent feed valve 77 while keeping the control valve 61 at a weak normal flow position. When the control valve 61 is kept at the weak normal flow, most of exhaust emission bypasses the particulate filter 69, and flows into the particulate filter 69 after the remaining exhaust emission of small amount passes through the auxiliary catalyst 79.
