Abstract:

PURPOSE: To always provide a constant NOX removal ratio in accordance with the concentration of NOX, in an internal combustion engine in which an NOX removal catalyst is installed in its exhaust passage and also which is provided with an exhaust turbine supercharger, by controlling the injection quantity of a reducing agent with regard to the NOX removal catalyst while using a part of the downstream air of the blower of the supercharger.

CONSTITUTION: In the way of an exhaust pipe 1, an NOX removal catalyst 3 installed inside a casing 2 is provided. On the other hand, a turbine 5 of an exhaust turbine supercharger 4 is arranged in the exhaust passage 6 further upstream of the NOX removal catalyst 3, and also a blower 7 is arranged in the intake passage 8. In this case, an air takeout passage 10 is branched from the intake pipe 9 in the outlet of the blower 7. A reducing-agent supply passage 12 of a reducing-agent service tank 11 together with the air takeout passage 10 are connected to a reducing-agent injection nozzle 13 situated opposite to the NOX removal catalyst 3. In other words, a part of air downstream of the blower 7 is used as the air for controlling the injection quantity of the reducing agent through the nozzle 13 by which the reducing agent is injected into the NOX removal catalyst 3.
