Abstract:

To provide an exhaust emission control device and control method for fully reactivating an NOx storage reduction type catalyst poisoned by sulfur oxides, and fully suppressing the discharge of harmful gas.

The exhaust emission control device 6, having an exhaust section 34 for circulating exhaust gas discharged from a lean burn system internal combustion engine 4 and a catalyst accommodation section 36 that is connected to the downstream side of the exhaust section 34 and accommodates the NOx storage reduction type catalyst, is equipped with a liquid introduction section 40 that is provided at the exhaust section 34 and introduces ethanol to the exhaust section 34. Ethanol is introduced from the liquid introduction section 40 to the exhaust section 34 by the exhaust emission control device 6, thus efficiently eliminating SOx from the NOx storage reduction type catalyst and fully preventing harmful gas, such as HC and CO, from passing the catalyst accommodation section 36 by using the ethanol.
