To provide an exhaust emission control system and a method for controlling the exhaust emission control system capable of improving operability for a driver by remarkably reducing frequency of manual regeneration in which a driver stops a vehicle and performs forced regeneration by a manual regeneration switch and solving an oil dilution problem by a plenty of unburned fuel injected for DPF regeneration in relation to regeneration of a continuous regeneration type DPF device of an exhaust emission control system.
In the exhaust emission control system 1 provided with a continuous regeneration type DPF device 13 and DPF control means 30C, regeneration number factor Rc which is index of the number of regeneration in relation to traveling distance is compared with a predetermined judgment factor value R0 when PM collection quantity ΔPm exceeds a predetermined judgment collection quantity ΔPm0. If the regeneration number factor Rc is smaller than the judgment factor value R0, traveling automatic regeneration is performed, and if the same is the predetermined judgment factor value R0 or greater, manual regeneration is performed.
