Abstract:

To inhibit discharge of unburned component right after start without relaying on adsorbent by activating a catalyst even under a low exhaust temperature condition.

A first catalytic converter 32 which carries catalyst for converting unburned component of fuel is installed, a reducing agent is supplied to the first catalytic converter 32 when operation of an engine 1 is stopped (S205) to reduce catalyst carried by the same. After reduction of the catalyst, an exhaust passage 31 is blocked by an exhaust shutter 34 at a downstream of the first catalytic converter 32, and outer air is inhibited from flowing in the first catalytic converter 32. At start of the engine 1 after reduction, the exhaust passage 31 is opened to make exhaust gas flow in the first catalytic converter 32, and the catalyst is made react with oxygen in exhaust gas to raise temperature of the catalyst to activation temperature.
