To provide an exhaust gas cooling column which can prevent the adhesion of wet ash to the inner wall surface of a column main body and the peripheral part of a spray nozzle.
The exhaust gas cooling column for cooling a high temperature combustion exhaust gas by spraying cooling water from a nozzle 11 installed in the column main body 10 is improved. Drift is prevented by installing a straightening column 14 in an exhaust gas introduction pipe 12 just above a column top part to make contact with the cooling water uniform. The inside diameter of the straightening column 14 is preferably larger than the inside diameter of the introduction pipe 12 to be 1/2-1/3 of the inside diameter of the column main body 10. And, it is preferable to install a crusher 17 for coagulated ash in an ash discharge opening 16 in the lower part of the column main body 10.
