PURPOSE: To obtain a gas filter device which is difficult to clog by closing one end of each cell of a honeycomb-shaped body consisting of a porous material at every other one, interposing a cushion material having air permeability on the outside circumference and loading this into a cylindrical member.
CONSTITUTION: Water and a binder such as starch powder glue are added to cordierite powder of about 10W100μm average grain sizes and the mixture is kneaded and is molded to a honeycomb shape by a vacuum extrusion molding machine. A non-air-permeable material 2 made by plasticizing cordierite powder of about 10μm average grain size is packed in the cells 1a at every other one end, and this is calcined at about 1,400°C after drying, whereby a filter 1 is obtained. A cushion material 3 obtd. by compression molding about 0.2mm diameter heat resistant metallic wires like a net to a wave shape is wound around the filter 1, and this filter is forced into a cylindrical member 4; further conical members 5, 6 are welded to the member 4, whereby a filter device is obtained. It is equally well to provide air permeability to the filter without closing part of the cell instead of making the material 3 air permeable.
