Abstract:
To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst excellent in warming-up characteristics and capable of speedily exhibiting an effective catalyst activity even when a relatively low temperature exhaust gas is introduced.SOLUTION: In an exhaust gas purifying catalyst disclosed herein, a catalyst supporting portion (20) formed on a substrate (11) is composed of a catalyst coating portion (22) having a carrier made of inorganic compound particles and at least one kind of catalytic metal supported on the carrier, and a catalyst metal direct support portion (24) having at least one catalyst metal directly supported on the substrate without the carrier therebetween, wherein the catalyst metal direct support portion is formed in at least an upstream region with a predetermined length from an upstream end (16A) in at least an exhaust gas passage, and the catalyst coating portion is not formed in the upstream region in the exhaust gas passage and is formed only in a region on the downstream side of this region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
