To provide an exhaust gas purifying apparatus having an arrangement to supply ozone as an active oxygen component to an exhaust gas passageway, in which the supplied ozone can contribute effectively at the time of a low temperature of an exhaust gas when a catalytic noble metal cannot develop the purification performance.
The exhaust gas purifying apparatus is provided with a honeycomb catalyst carrier 11 with a plurality of cell walls having a catalyst layer containing catalyst metal components formed on an engine exhaust gas passageway 3 and an active oxygen component supplying device 5 to supply an active oxygen component from the upstream part of the catalyst carrier 11 to the catalyst carrier 11. It is characterized in that the aspect ratio as defined by carrier length/carrier average diameter of the catalyst carrier 11 is 0.55 or more.
