Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the occurrence of a pressure loss due to an exhaust gas purifying device without remarkably lowering the efficiency of collection of particulates of the exhaust gas purifying device for an internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION: In an exhaust gas purifying device formed that a fist exhaust gas purifying means to purify components in exhaust gas is situated in an engine exhaust gas passage and a second exhaust gas purifying means 21 is situated in an engine exhaust gas passage situated upper stream of the first exhaust gas purifying means, the second exhaust gas purifying means 21 has a partition wall 54 to partition an exhaust gas flow-in passage 50 and an exhaust gas flow-out passage 51 from each other. The partition wall 54 is formed of a porous material including pores of a predetermined average pore diameter. The end parts of partition walls 54 are collected such that the end openings of the passages 50 and 51 have pores 55 and 56 having a flow passage sectional area larger than the pore diameter of the partition wall 54 but narrower than the sectional areas of the passages 50 and 51 and the end parts are partially interconnected.
