Abstract:
PURPOSE:To heat SiC quickly by microwave at the time of starting of an engine so as to improve purifying efficiency for exhaust gas by forming a catalyst carrying layer which contains at least SiC on the surface of a carrying base member made of ceramics or the like, and carrying catalyst metal on this catalyst carrying layer. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas purifying device consists of a catalyst member 1 arranged through a sealing member 3 inside a catalyst container 4 incorporated in the exhaust system of an engine, and a microwave heating device 2 arranged on the upperstream side 40 of the catalyst member 1. The catalyst member 1 is formed with the honeycomb catalyst base member 10 made of cordierite or the like, and a catalyst carrying layer (wash coat layer or the like) 12 formed on the surface of the honeycomb catalyst base material 10. The catalyst carrying layer 12 is formed with activated alumina powder 13, and catalyst metal carrying SiC (silicon carbide) powder 14 which is contained in the activated alumina powder 13 and on the surface of which catalyst metal is carried beforehand. Thus purifying efficiency of exhaust gas is improved by heating SiC quickly by microwave at the time of starting of the engine.
