To provide an exhaust gas recirculation device which is effectively used for a diesel engine for automobile to prevent the generation of black smoke during rapid acceleration.

The exhaust gas recirculation device is provided with an EGR valve 10 which is interposed on the way of an exhaust gas recirculation path 4 connecting an air intake passage 2 with an exhaust passage 3 to adjust the flow rate of exhaust gas recirculation, and a valve controller 11 for controlling the opening of the EGR valve 10. There is formed a flow rate control part 41 for controlling the flow rate of intake air in the passage 2 between the connection port 24b of an engine side and the end part of a piston rod 38 which is fitted onto the valve box 14 of the EGR valve 10, and an air port 31 is connected to the cylinder chamber 27 of a cylinder apparatus 25. The piston rod 38 retreats by supplying air to the air port 31 in response to the instruction of the valve controller 11 at rapid acceleration, and the intake passage 2 is expanded to increase the flow rate of fresh intake air. Since the increased fresh intake air is supplied to an engine at rapid acceleration to promote complete combustion of a fuel in the engine, the occurrence of black smoke can be prevented.
