Abstract:
PURPOSE: To increase power and reduce fuel consumption while restricting generation of NOx by allowing reflux of high-temperature and high-pressure exhaust gas into cylinders in the first half of compression stroke.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas reflux port 3 which connects the inside of each cylinder C1-C4 and an exhaust gas chamber 5 is furnished with an exhaust gas reflux valve 8. The exhaust gas reflux valve 8 is kept open for a period from the second half of the expansion stroke of the cylinder corresponding to this valve to the succeeding bottom dead center BDC or a point close to the BDC so as to take part of high-temperature and high-pressure combustion gas into the exhaust gas chamber 5. Then, the valve 8 is kept open for the first half of the compression stroke to allow the reflux of exhaust gas from the exhaust gas chamber 5 into the cylinder.
