Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust pipe for an internal combustion engine and a method of welding a diaphragm thereof that are capable of increasing the weld strength of a diaphragm welded in a pipe and the reliability of junction with reliability and ease.
SOLUTION: This exhaust pipe for an internal combustion engine comprises a pipe body 10 and a diaphragm 11. The diaphragm 11 is provided with welding junctions 11a at two positions opposed to the pipe body 10, and joined to the inside wall of the pipe body 10 by the welding junctions 11a, thereby splitting the cross sectional face of the pipe body 10 in two. Welding of the welding junctions 11a and the pipe body 10 is started at a middle portion 10c of the pipe body 10 and finished at the middle portion 10c so as to form a loop. A start point 12a and a finish point 12b of a weld bead 12 are formed at the middle portion 10c of the pipe body 10, and ends 10A, 10B are joined through a portion of the weld bead 12 which has a stable weld strength.
