Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine that can quickly elevate the temperature of a catalyst device and reliably regenerate it, while suppressing degradation in fuel economy in any operating condition by using an ignition timing retard method or an additional fuel injection method selectively depending on an operating condition of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: When a catalyst temperature Tcat of a storage type NOx catalyst 25 reaches or exceeds a temperature elevation setting temperature ZSTEMP set according to an S regeneration frequency D, only in a low load range of the internal combustion engine, a catalyst temperature elevation by an additional fuel injection (two-stage combustion) method is executed and an air-fuel ratio is enriched to release SOx.
