Abstract:

To shorten a period for adding fuel when discharging SOx, in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine.

This exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine has a first exhaust passage 22a and a second exhaust passage 22b branching off from an exhaust passage 21 of the internal combustion engine. NOx storing-reducing catalysts 23a and 23b and particulate filters 24a and 24b for respectively carrying an NOx absorber 67, are arranged in the respective exhaust passages 22a and 22b. When discharging the SOx from the NOx absorber 67, a fuel adding period F and a fuel addition resting period R from a fuel adding valve 32 are alternately repeated, and any one of a first exhaust control valve 26a or a second exhaust control valve 26b is closed in the respective fuel adding periods F, and afterwards, is continuously closed even in the fuel addition resting period R.
