To provide a technology enabling more accurate calculation of the quantity of particulate material collected by a particulate filter, in an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine.
This device is provided with; the particulate filter 10; a high pressure EGR passage 41 connecting an intake air passage and an exhaust gas passage at an upstream of the filter 10; a low pressure EGR passage 31 connecting the intake air passage and the exhaust gas passage at a downstream of the filter 10; and a particulate matter quantity estimation means 13 estimating quantity of particulate matter collected by the particulate filter 10 based on quantity of exhaust gas flowing in the high pressure EGR passage 41 and the low pressure EGR passage 31 respectively with making exhaust gas flowing in the high pressure EGR passage 41 not pass through the filter 10 and making exhaust gas flowing in the low pressure EGR passage 31 pass through the filter 10.
