PURPOSE: To prevent the after burn in an exhaust system by surely and rapidly releasing the unburnt gas such as gaseous hydrogen to be discharged from the engine body into an exhaust passage when the engine is started or stopped in the gaseous fuel engine.
CONSTITUTION: In an engine to use the gaseous fuel such as gaseous hydrogen, a short-circuit exhaust passage 22 which is branched from the position upstream of a silencer 21 of a main exhaust passage 20 and connected to an atmosphere- releasing port 22a via a short path is formed, and the exhaust gas is guided to the short-circuit exhaust passage 22 by means of a switching valve 23 and ECU 25 when the engine is started or stopped, preventing the unburnt gas from accumulating the silencer 21.
