In the exhaust turbo compound system in the internal combustion engine for driving a turbine compressor for sucking and compressing the atmosphere by emission exhausted from a cylinder, and supplying the compressed air to a cylinder as air for combustion, a supply system path of the compressed air is composed of a main path passing a displacement rotary expander, and a sub passage bypassing the expander. When operation of the turbine compressor is insufficient, compressed air is supplied to the cylinder via the sub path, and when the operation is sufficient, the compressed air is supplied to the cylinder through the main path for expanding the air by the displacement rotary compressor and lowering the temperature. A rotary shaft and a crankshaft of the displacement rotary expander are power-connected, and when the rotational speed when the crankshaft is driven by power applied on the rotary shaft exceeds the rotational speed of the crankshaft itself, power is connected to the crankshaft from the rotary shaft, and in the opposite case, power is cutoff.
