To provide an expander improving power recovery efficiency during expansion of a refrigerant by increasing an expansion ratio.
This expander 30 includes: a refrigerant circuit (10) formed by evaporators (21), a compressor (22) and a condenser (23); a cylinder 31; a rotor 32 rotating around a rotating shaft 32a in the hollow part of the cylinder 31; and vanes 33 which are stored in vane grooves 33a to be moved forward and backward along the radially outward direction of the rotor 32 and which have tip ends made to slidably contact with the inner wall surface of the cylinder 31 to thereby partition a working space 36 formed by the cylinder 31 and rotor 32 to define a plurality of working chambers 37. The refrigerant condensed by the condenser is sucked into the working chambers 37 through a suction port 31a and the volume of the operation chambers 37 is changed, thereby expanding the refrigerant and delivering the refrigerant through a delivery port 35a. The thickness of the cylinder 31 defining the working chambers 37 when the volume of the working chambers 37 is maximized is reduced.
