Title:
EXPANSION JOINT SYSTEM COPING WITH MULTI-DIRECTIONAL LARGE MOVEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3805320
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion joint system for accommodating forces applied to a road construction during ordinal changes in ambient conditions, which is designed to withstand seismic forces and vehicular forces and is applied in transverse and longitudinal directions.
SOLUTION: The expansion joint system 10 includes spaced transverse vehicle load bearing members 11 to 17 which are placed in a gap defined between adjacent sections of the road construction, longitudinally extending support members 30 to 33 positioned beneath the load bearing members 11 to 17, means embedded in the adjacent road sections for controlling longitudinal, transverse and vertical movements, and a mechanism for controlling a space between transverse load bearing beams. Preferably, this mechanism maintains a substantially equal distance between transverse load bearing beam members.
