A control board 12 is arranged within a vertical face. A slot 17 for a light source board and a slot 18 for a photodetecting board are provided in the control board 12 to attach and detach the light source board 14 and the photodetecting board 15. The light source board 14 to emit the light of the frequency corresponding to a detection objective substance and the photodetecting board 15 to detect it are selected. The light source board 14 and the photodetecting board 15 are attached to the respective slots 17, 18. An experiment chip 30 for electrophoresis is formed into a card type to be fit horizontally between the light source board 14 and the photodetecting board 15. The slit-like light is emitted from a light source unit 22 of the light source board 14 toward a capillary of the experiment chip 30. The light transmitted through the capillary is detected by a photoreception unit 23 of the photodetecting board 15.
