Abstract:
PURPOSE: To constitute an expert system easy for a user to understand by providing a proper explanation means.
CONSTITUTION: A rule base 50 used in an inference engine is divided into groups called rule classes, and a strategy explanation 60, a reason explanation 60, and an inference explanation are related to them. Each rule class is arranged like a hierarchical structure and includes a subordination table 65 indicating subordinations to other rule classes. When a first rule in a rule class is fired, a frame to store the explanation related to this rule class is formed. When an inference process requires repair, the frame generates an explanation 60 to explain an inference processor.
