A power supply frequency setting section 70 sets an AC power supply frequency and allows a CCD 30 to store and read charges thrice respectively uniformly within a single vertical period which is shorter than two luminescent periods of a fluorescent light, corresponding to one period of the AC power supply frequency to adjust the exposure. At this time, since the charge storage/read is conducted thrice for the latter half 1/100 of a single vertical period, the exposure is adjusted, while completely preventing occurrence of flickers.
