Abstract:

To provide an exposure control apparatus capable of sufficiently obtaining lightness of a main object under backlight conditions.

An exposure control apparatus divides a picked-up image obtained by an imaging device into a plurality of blocks, determines a luminance mean value for each block (S200), determines a value of contrast with an adjacent block based on the luminance mean value of each block (S210), determines a block whose contrast value is equal with or greater than a prescribed contrast judgement threshold value (S220), detects a block in a backlight portion using a minimum luminance mean value among the judged blocks (S230), performs prescribed weighting on the luminance mean value of the blocks in the backlight portion (S240), determines lightness of the picked-up image (S250), and controls the quantity of light incident on the imaging device or a gain of an output from the imaging device based on the lightness of the picked-up image (S260).
