To provide an exposure control device capable of increasing detection accuracy of an obstacle or the like in a halation region even if halation occurs in a picked-up image.
An exposure control device comprises: first reference region setting means for setting a first reference region in an imaging region of an imaging device; exposure amount adjustment means for adjusting an exposure amount of the imaging device to a first exposure amount determined according to the brightness of the first reference region; halation detection means for determining whether or not a halation region is present in the first reference region in which the exposure amount has been adjusted by the exposure amount adjustment means; and second reference region setting means for, when the halation region is detected by the halation detection means, setting a reference region including the detected halation region and smaller than the first reference region. If the halation region is detected, the exposure amounting adjustment means adjusts the exposure amount of the imaging device to a second exposure amount determined according to the brightness of a second reference region.
