Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the photometric time and to attain proper exposure control without the effect of smear. SOLUTION: The lightness of an object is obtained based on an electric signal obtained from an image pickup means and whether or not the lightness of the object is proper is discriminated (step S12). When the lightness of the object is less than a prescribed lightness (luminance when smear is caused), the exposure of the image pickup means is controlled based on the obtained lightness of the object. On the other hand, in the case that the lightness of the object is over the luminance that causes smear to take place, (step S24), signal charges stored in an image pickup element are not transferred to a vertical transfer path and the smear amount is detected by reading charges on the vertical transfer path (step S26), the lightness of the object is corrected based on the detected smear amount (step S28) and the exposure of the image pickup means is controlled based on the corrected lightness of the object.
