PURPOSE: To make a device small in size end to reduce the cost by providing an optical shutter constructed of a tubular color-separating filter separating a light applied from a linear light source into the three primary colors and of a lens array comprising a plurality of lenses each arranged corresponding to each shutter.
CONSTITUTION: A light emitted from a fluorescent lamp 12 is separated into the three colors of B, G and R by a color-separating filter 16 rotating in accordance with an image information, and then it enters a liquid crystal optical shutter 20 through a filter pocket 18. In the liquid crystal optical shutter 20, the time of impression of voltage on electrodes fitted to a liquid crystal element 22 is varied in accordance with the image information, so as to vary the light transmittance of a plurality of pixel forming elements 30. The light passing through the pixel forming elements 30 in a transmitting state is focused to be imaged on a photosensitive material 14 by microlenses 36 of a plane lens 32 formed opposite to the pixel forming elements 30, whereby an image for two lines is recorded in a dot pattern. Moreover the photosensitive material 14 is fed intermittently for two lines, the procedures for exposure of the three colors are repeated and thereby the whole of the image is recorded.
