PURPOSE: To enable exterminating sites in a carpet without leaving their carcasses therein in a simple manner by a method wherein a heating means produces temperatures in a gradient in the carpet and the sites inhabiting it pre driven away toward the lower-temperature side alive and removed at a specified spot.
CONSTITUTION: First a carpet 1 is folded in two. After fitting it at one end with a troughlike device, a site extermination-operating switch is turned on. Then a rotary switch RS rotates, applying current to heater elements R1, R2,... in turn so that the heated zone gradually shifts from one end of the carpet 1 to the other. The operating time is about 30 minutes in terms of a carpet sized two jo (approximately two meters square) and the temperature of the heated zone, particularly at the main body part of the carpet, is raised to about 50°C, i.e., about the highest point in the ordinary use. A high temperature effective for destroying mites is not used for the reason that the sites left unremoved after a single cycle of heating are certainly driven away to the end and eventually removed through heating repeated a number of times.
