Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an external counter pulsation device with improved efficiency by arranging so that solenoid valves are allowed to open and dose and that a plurality of balloons are also allowed to expand and contract depending on an expansion-contraction drive signal according to an impedance blood flow graph of human heart. CONSTITUTION: A control means 10 controls a gas compressor 20 and a group of solenoid valves 24 respectively. The compressor 20 feeds under pressure a compressed gas to a reservoir 22 via a cooling means 21. The reservoir 22 is equipped with a pressure control valve 23 to maintain its inner pressure constant. The opening and closing of the solenoid valves 24 are controlled by an expansion-contraction drive signal produced by the control means 10 according to an impedance blood flow graph of the human heart. The group of solenoid valves 24 consist of a number of two-position three-way solenoid valves, the number of which corresponds to the individual number of each balloon 23, i.e., at the first position each balloon 25 is expanded while at the second position each balloon 25 is contracted.
