To stably connect electrodes formed on the external surface of a discharge lamp electrically with metal coating members.
The method comprises the steps of applying a conductive resin layer 4a to the external surface of each longitudinal end of a discharge tube 2 in which discharge gas is sealed, drying the conductive resin layer 4a, applying a conductive resin material 4b to the internal surface of the metal coating member 5, soldering a metal wire 6 to the external surface of the metal coating member 5, coating the discharge tube 2 with a metal coating member 5 so that the conductive resin material 4b applied to the internal surface of the metal coating member 5 is in close contact with the hardened conductive resin material 4b on the external surface of the discharge tube 2, drying the conductive resin material 4b applied to the internal surface of the metal coating member 5, coating the metal coating member 5, the conductive resin 4, and the exposed portion of the external surface of the discharge tube 2 near the conductive resin 4 with an insulative resin film 8, and hardening the insulative resin film 8.
