Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an external storage device system which is suited to realize a large capacity with a low bit cost without giving any burden to a host device.
CONSTITUTION: A disk array part 3 is controlled by a microprocessor 6 in an active storage pool AP and inactive storage pool NP. The pool AP stores the data which receive the frequent accesses, and the pool NP stores the data which receive no access for a fixed period or longer after these data are compressed by a compression/expansion circuit 9 of an array controller 2. Thus it is possible to effectively apply the storage of a limited capacity without giving any burden to the host device 1 and to realize a storage subsystem that seems to have an extremely large capacity to the device 1.
