Abstract:

PURPOSE: An external use preparation for skin that contains a hydroquinone glycoside, thus having remarkably improved skin color-lightening effect with high safety.

CONSTITUTION: A hydroquinone glycoside of the formula (R is residue of pentoses, hexoses, aminosaccharides, or uronic acid or its methylated product) is added. This compound has very high safety and high stability and shows skin color- lightening effect at the same level as of hydroquinone. Especially, the combination of hydroquinone with beta-linked D-glucose, generic name: arbutin, is preferred. The agent containing the compound causes no irritation, scarce sensitization, permitting continuous use for a long period of time in high concentration to develop satisfactory skin color-lightening action.
