Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a water-insoluble antioxidant and a water-soluble antioxidant, having high safety, at low cost, by treating rosemary or sage with methanol or ethanol to extract the water-insoluble antioxidant, and separating the water-soluble antioxidant from the filtrate.

CONSTITUTION: Rosemary, sage or their mixture is treated with methanol or ethanol containing 40W60% of water to extract the antioxidant component. The extract is added with water to precipitate the water-insoluble antioxidant component, mixed with activated charcoal, and filtered to obtain a mixture of the water-insoluble antioxidant component and the activated charcoal. The mixture is again treated with methanol or ethanol to extract the water-insoluble antioxidant component, and the extract is distilled to remove the solvent and to obtain the concentrate of the water-insoluble antioxidant component. The filtrate obtained by the filtration of the mixture of the water-insoluble antioxidant and the activated charcoal, is distilled to remove the solvent and the water-soluble antioxidant is obtained.
