Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain foam having sufficient strength and self-extinguishing properties, by feeding a styrenic resin, a specific organobromo flame-retardant, a specified free group-initiator, and a blowing agent to an extruder, kneading them at high temperature under high pressure, extruding the blend to an atmosphere at low temperature under low pressure.

CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. styrenic resin, preferably 0.5W2.0pts.wt. organobromo flame-retardant (preferably, monochloropentabromocyclohexane, etc.) having 190W230°C kick-off temperature, preferably 0.02W0.10pt.wt. free group-initiator (preferably cumene hydroperoxide, etc.) having 220W280°C temperature of half- life period of one minute and a blowing agent (e.g., ethane, etc.) are fed to an extruder, kneaded at high temperature under high pressure, and extruded into an atmosphere at low temperature under low pressure, to give the desired foam.
