PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compact eyepiece variable power optical system.
SOLUTION: The eyepiece variable power optical system used by being combined with an objective optical system consists, successively from the objective optical system side, a fixed first lens group, a second lens group of negative power movable in variable power, a third lens group of positive power movable in variable power, and a fixed fourth lens group of positive power, in which the second lens group and the third lens group move to directions parting from each other in the variable power from a long focal length end to a short focal length end to form an intermediate image between the second lens group and the third lens group.
