Abstract:
To provide frameless eyewear which possesses appropriate physical properties, such as tensile strength, impact resistance and stiffness, while still maintaining good optical properties and a pleasing aesthetic appearance.SOLUTION: A frameless eyewear lens comprises: a lens body having a front surface and a back surface; and a stiffening member disposed on an upper portion of the lens body and extending along the upper portion of the lens body, where the stiffening member may be an integral part of the lens and may extend along the upper portion of the lens. At least a portion of the stiffening member may extend forward of a corresponding point on the front surface of the lens. The stiffening member may have different dimensions and cross sections based on the stiffening enhancement needed and aesthetic considerations. The stiffening member may be designed to improve the moment of inertia of the eyewear lens to a desired value. The increased stiffness caused by the stiffening member may also be designed to achieve a target head force on the head of a user when the eyewear lens is integrated into eyewear.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
