To obtain the subject fabric excellent in gloss and dry feeling, and capable of providing a deep color by forming a polyester fiber having a part of a specific birefringence into a woven or knitted fabric and thereafter heat- treating the woven or knitted fabric so as to have an orientation degree measured by wide angle X-ray diffraction over a specified value.
The objective fabric excellent in drape is obtained by forming a polyester fiber, which is a thick and thin yarn having at least a part of 30-80×10-3 birefringence Δn, and preferably having 0.3-2.5 U%, 1.5-3.5 g/d strength, 80-170% elongation and 1.0-3.0 BWS, into a woven or knitted fabric, and heating the woven or knitted fabric by a roll preferably having 140-180°C temperature and 20-50 kg/cm2 pressure to provide the polyester fiber having ≥4% orientation degree of (100) lattice by a wide angle X-ray diffraction, thereafter, carrying out a relaxed treatment, a heat set and a thinning treatment by an alkali to provide the objective fabric excellent in drape including ≥20% polyester fiber having ≤2 g/d strength, ≥70%, elongation, (-5)-5% BWS and ≤5.5 g/d Young modulus.
