The face detection device which determines whether a face is included in an image is provided with: a region determination part 104 which determines a region around designated coordinates; a face detection part 105 which detects the face from the region determined by the region determination part; and a region expansion part 106 which when the face detection part fails in the face detection, expands the region determined by the region determination part. Therefore, the face detection device does not have to scan the entire image in the determination of the presence or absence of the face, thereby shortening the time until the face is detected.
