Abstract:

To discriminate the direction of the face based on a person image, and to decide the reliability.

A face image obtained by photographing the face of a driver by a camera 10 is stored in an image memory 22. A CPU 24 discriminates the both side positions and vertical positions of the face based on the face image stored in the image memory 22, and discriminates the angle of face direction. The CPU 24 calculates reliability meaning the reliability of the searched face direction, and outputs it while associated with the direction of the face. The CPU 24 calculates, as reliability, reliability based on a deviation value between the preliminarily discriminated position of the face and the position detected this time, reliability based on a histogram obtained by projecting the pixel value of each pixel of the face image after Sobel filter processing to a predetermined direction, reliability based on the position of center of gravity by dividing the face image into a plurality of regions, and calculating the center of gravidity of each region and reliability based on luminance by dividing the face image into a plurality of regions, and calculating the luminance of each region.
