PURPOSE: To transmit a test mainly composed of the character code to the destination in a remote place, by using a storage device from which a recording medium is separated and by providing a mode using the character code.
CONSTITUTION: As a storage part 15, a storage device where a recording medium is separated and taken out and the recording medium is loaded freely is used. An operating part 16 dials the destination and designates the mode of a terminal to connect the communication destination. The operating part 16 is provided with operation buttons or the like, by which the operator indicates individually a mode using the storage part for information from the reading part of a facsimile reading part/recording part 1 and a mode using a recording medium, where character code information is stored by an external document generating device or the like which is not connected to a fascimile device 18, in the storage part, and a control device for this indication.
