PURPOSE: To improve the operability and to protect the secrecy of a facsimile equipment by a method wherein a user optionally registers a transmission number in the name of transmitting destination, retrieves the transmission number with the transmitting destination name used as a key word, and then can transmit the facsimile information.

CONSTITUTION: A character input part 1 inputs a transmitting destination name in a KANA (Japanese syllabary) character string, and a KANJI (Chinese character) dictionary part 2 is retrieved. Then the transmitting destination number corresponding to the character string converted by a character converting part 3 is registered in a transmitting destination storing part 5. Then the transmitting destination name or some KANA characters are inputted by the part 1 in a transmission state. Thus the part 5 is retrieved, and the telephone number corresponding to the transmitting destination name accordant with the input KANA characters is shown at a character display part 6. Thus a user can select one of those displayed telephone numbers to perform the facsimile transmission to the desired transmitting destination number.
